Really should tag a lot of posts here 'ephemera' but then, aren't we all?
Currently up for auction on eBay here... starting bid just £7.48.
The big turn off for this grill, however, is the phrase in the description which reads "Looks like most of the writing was in pencil and was gone over with a pen many years ago."
Hmmm... from the Grill but not so well done!
Here we go with a great piece of musical history. A 1935 ticket from the BROAD STREET GRILL in Richmond, Virginia for the show in the Tantella Roof Garden Dance Hall there. Playing there, the national musical treasure, Duke Ellington and his Aristocrats of Harlem Band. Ticket price was 50 cents per person. Table #71. Reservations in name of R. T. Smith Jr. Look at back of ticket. Duke Ellington signed autograph to lady with Smith. But the explanation was it was made out to Miss Lay, because she looked like movie actress-Miss Monna Lay. Please look at pictures carefully and mouse enlarge them to see condition. As they are part of the description. Looks like most of writing was in pencil and was gone over with a pen many years ago.
I think the “improver” of this autographed ticket might have meant “Myrna Loy.” The handwriting looks to me like “Merna Loy.”
